Welcome to the website of the Nene Valley Astronomical Society.
Based in East Northamptonshire, the Nene Valley Astronomical Society (NVAS) exists to promote and advance the science of astronomy in this area, both amongst it's members and the public.
The society holds a number of meetings and events during the course of each month with meetings held on the first Thursday of each month at Sudborough Village Hall, Main Street, Sudborough and on the third Monday of each month at Chelveston Village Hall, Caldecott Road, Chelveston. At the meetings you will here a range of guest speakers who are expert in their chosen fields interspered with presentations by our members. In addition regular weekly observing sessions (Starnights) are held on clear Friday evenings at Chelveston Village Hall. All our meetings and events begin at 8.00pm.
Our members range from those who just have a casual interest in astronomy right up to more advanced amateur astronomers. We are a friendly society, with members always willing to help out newcomers to the subject, for example setting up a new telescope.
The Nene Valley Astronomical Society is a free to join society - we do not charge a up front membership fee - instead members pay a small admission fee of £1 to each meeting that they go along to. We believe that this is a much fairer way of running a society and ensures that members only pay for meetings and events which they attend.
We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website. If you have any questions or require any further information about the society or astronomy in general then please contact the groups co-ordinator, Steve Williams on 01933 650331 or e-mail: chilternastro@yahoo.co.uk
